Command Sgt. Maj. Anthony W. Mahoney enlisted in the United States Army in 1984 and completed one station unit training at Fort Benning, Georgia.

Command Sgt. Maj. Mahoney has served in the army over 25 years in various Airborne and Light Infantry assignments throughout the United States and overseas, to include 2d Battalion, 7th Cavalry, Fort Hood, TX, 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, Fort Richardson, AK, 19th Infantry Regiment, Fort Benning, GSA, 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, Schofield Barracks, HI, 1st Battalion, 325 Airborne Infantry regiment, Fort Bragg, NC, and the Joint Readiness Training Center, Fort Polk, LA. He has held leadership positions as a Team Leader, Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant, Drill Sergeant, Assistant Inspector General, and Battalion Observer/Controller. Command Sgt. Maj. Mahoney served as the Battalion CSM with the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment of the 10th Mountain Division, and as the CSM of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 10th Mountain Division. Command Sgt. Maj. Mahoney formerly served as the Command Sergeant Major for the United States Corps of Cadets, and currently serves as the Command Sergeant Major for the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York.

Command Sgt. Maj. Mahoney is a graduate of Austin Peay State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. His military education includes the Basic Airborne Course, Ranger School, Long Range Surveillance Leaders Course, Jump Master Course, Air Assault Course, Drill Sergeant Course, Inspector General Course, Battle Staff Course, and all levels of the Noncommissioned Officer Education System. He is a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy Class 52.

Command Sgt. Maj. Mahoney’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Kosovo Campaign Medal, the Multinational Force and Observers Medal, and the NATO Medal. He has earned the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Expert Infantryman’s Badge, the Ranger Tab, and the Master Parachutist Badge.

He is married to the former Alisa Scofield of Birmingham, Alabama.
