Opera Forum

This club is committed to fostering an appreciation of opera in its members by providing them the opportunity to regularly attend performances of this art form in the greater Metropolitan area. /DEP/PublishingImages/OF_1.jpgThe Opera Forum also seeks to engage students in thinking about the different forms of communication that define opera (song, speech, music, etc.) and how these different methods of expression can be combined to tell (and retell) classic stories in bold new ways.

Recent Events

  • On 25 February, the Opera Forum traveled to White Plains to watch a simulcast of Verdi's Ernani.
  • On 18 November 2011, the Cadet Fine Arts Forum's Opera Forum conducted a trip section to New York City under the supervision of OIC Dr. Marc Napolitano. This trip included visits to major cultural sites in Manhattan, culminating in a viewing of George Frideric Handel's opera Rodelinda.

Ongoing Events

  • The Opera Forum meets bi-weekly in the Haig Room to study opera. This semester's theme is "Figaro, Figaro, Figaro" as we begin with Rossini's Barber of Seville and then transition to Mozart's Marriage of Figaro, both of which are adapted from Pierre Beaumarchais's Figaro plays.
