WEST POINT, N.Y. – Approximately 15 cadets enrolled in XH467, Winning the Peace, a Social Science capstone course, will visit Jersey City, N.J., April 15-17 to meet with officials from city government, police department and ethnic community leaders as part of a cultural immersion experience.
This is the sixth year cadets have been invited to be part of such a unique learning opportunity. Jersey City is a multi-ethnic, multi-religious, and multi-cultural city of 250,000 people located directly across the river from New York City.
Senior leaders from the Jersey City Police Department and ethnic community leaders created a schedule to maximize the perspectives with which the cadets can directly be exposed to ethnic, cultural, religious, generational, socio-economic, and public versus private entities. The cadets also spend two nights in a local mosque, which includes their observance of the daily prayers that occur throughout the evening and early morning.
