WEST POINT SELECTS CADET FIRST CAPTAIN – Aug. 2, 2010

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Cadet Marc C. Beaudoin, the son Michael Beaudoin, of Chelsea, Maine has been selected First Captain of the U.S. Military Academy’s Corps of Cadets for the 2010-2011 academic year, which begins Aug. 16, achieving the highest position in the cadet chain-of-command.

Beaudoin graduated from Cheverus High School in 2006.

As First Captain, Beaudoin, an international history major, is responsible for the overall performance of the approximately 4,400 member Corps of Cadets.  He follows in the footsteps of other notable First Captains such as John J. Pershing, Douglas MacArthur and William Westmoreland.

“Cadet Marc Beaudoin has shown exceptional leadership skills and has a great reputation within the Corps of Cadets,” said Commandant of Cadets Brig. Gen. William E. Rapp.  “He was selected as the First Captain based on his outstanding record in underclass leadership positions during his first three years at the academy and, most recently, as the 2010 Cadet Basic Training First Detail ‘King of Beast.’”

He will assume his duties as First Captain on Aug. 9, which marks the completion of Cadet Basic Training for the Class of 2014.

The First Captain, a senior who is also called the Brigade Commander, is similar to a student body president.  His duties include implementing a class agenda and acting as a liaison between the Corps and the administration.  In addition, Beaudoin is at the top of a pyramid of cadet commanders who make up the chain-of-command for the Corps of Cadets at West Point.
