WEST POINT ANNOUNCES COACHING CHANGE – Sept. 24, 2009

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy, Lt. Gen. Buster Hagenbeck, and the Athletic Director, Kevin Anderson, announced today the release of Army men’s basketball Coach Jim Crews.

“I needed to make a change in the leadership of the men’s basketball program due to circumstances surrounding leadership and philosophical differences,” stated Anderson.

“While tough, this decision is in the best interest of both the academy and our cadets,” said Hagenbeck.

In the seven years as Army head coach, Crews registered a 60-139 (.302) record.  He led Army to the Patriot League Tournament semi-finals each of the last three seasons.  Army finished 11-19 overall a year ago.

In making the announcement, Anderson said that a national search for Crews’ replacement will begin immediately.  Army Deputy Athletic Director Gene Marshall will serve as interim coach.
