HISTORY SYMPOSIUM ON IRREGULAR WARFARE – Nov. 13, 2009
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The U.S. Military Academy’s Department of History will host a symposium on irregular warfare at West Point from Nov. 18-20.
The two principal blocks of interest will encompass the American Experience, 1775-1975, and International Perspectives on Irregular Warfare. There will also be lectures by the visiting scholars and a roundtable discussion between select visiting scholars and West Point faculty on recent and ongoing operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The visiting scholars include: Dr. Stephen Biddle (Council on Foreign Relations), Dr. Jeremy Black (Univ. of Exeter), Dr. Conrad Crane (Military History Institute), Army Col. Robert Cassidy (Center for Advanced Defense Studies), Dr. George Herring (Univ. of Kentucky), Dr. James Le Sueur (Univ. of Nebraska-Lincoln), Dr. Brian Linn (Texas A&M Univ.) and Dr. Peter Mansoor (The Ohio State Univ.).
The West Point History Department’s Col. Gian Gentile will also take part in the roundtable discussion.
Cadets will have an opportunity to interact with peers and visiting scholars to discuss their theoretical research and analysis of irregular warfare in a panel format.
