ACCEPTANCE DAY FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 

1. What time will my cadet be released on Saturday, Aug. 15th?

Cadets will be released by company as soon as the last duty/task is signed off by their respective TAC Team.  Typically cadets are released within an hour to an hour and a half after the completion of the parade, but it can be longer depending on duties or tasks.

2. What time will my cadet have to return to the barracks?

Cadets are required to return to the barracks by TAPS (1 a.m., August 16, 2009)

3. How long will I have to spend with my cadet on Sunday, Aug. 16th?

Cadets are authorized to leave no earlier than 5:20 a.m. on Sunday and must return for evening formation at 7 p.m.

4. What uniform will my cadet be wearing?

Cadet uniform for the weekend is white over gray with appropriate head gear.

5. Where can my cadet travel during Acceptance Day weekend?

Cadets may accompany family to their hotel during the hours of walking privileges but must observe the following restrictions:

   a. Fourth Class Cadets (Plebes) must travel directly from the academy to their parent/guardian’s hotel and back.  Plebes are not authorized to stop in order to shop, tour, visit, eat or engage in any other activity while traveling between the academy and the hotel.

   b. Plebes are not authorized to eat outside of the below listed walking privilege limits in any location other than parent/guardian hotels.

   c.White over gray is the only authorized uniform; no civilian clothes, no Gym-Alpha.

   d. Plebes are not authorized to drink regardless of their age or location of their parent’s hotel.

   e. Plebes may remove their head gear while eating during an outdoor picnic at the river courts, South Dock area, Round Pond or other picnic locations.

   f. Plebes who failed their “for record” APFT (Army Physical Fitness Test) are authorized walking privileges in accordance w/above standards.

6. Can my cadet go to a restaurant?

Cadets may go to restaurants within the “walking privilege” area.  Walking privilege geographic limits are as follows: North – Main post limits; South – Bear Mountain traffic circle including the grounds of the Bear Mountain Hotel to include all state park facilities; East – the Hudson River (boating is allowed within view of West Point); West – West side of Route 9W (cadets may frequent those religious or business establishments located directly on the West side of 9W).  The Palisades Mall is NOT within walking limits.
As stated above, cadets may also eat in a restaurant if it is within their parent/guardian’s hotel. 

7. Are family members other than parents allowed to visit/attend the Acceptance Day Parade?

YES!  All family members and friends are encouraged to support the event and to spend time with their cadet.  Please be aware that although shuttle buses are usually available, there is also quite a bit of walking required. Please plan accordingly.

8. Additional Information

Your cadet may want to visit the PX to shop for various itmes: cleaning supplies, school supplies, etc. YES, you are allowed to shop with your cadet. He/she must be present to complete the purchase. The hours of operation for Saturday 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. and for Sunday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
