Vision

Reaching the members of the West Point Community - at any time, in any place!

The United States Military Academy envisions a 21st century technological environment that is not confined by walls accessible to the West Point community providing the knowledge that they need, when they need it.
It will be an environment that facilitates the intellectual, military, physical, and moral-ethical development of cadets. It will be independent of both time and place, and will integrate information services for the Garrison and staff and faculty as well as cadets, the whole Army Team, West Point Team — Grads/Alums, families, friends, and retirees. Teaching and learning will be interactive and extend from the classroom to the campus and beyond. Academy operations will also be real-time and interactive. Collaborative work environments that are formed by virtual communities of interest will increase communications and productivity while decreasing costs. Activities will not be confined to traditional work hours or workspaces. There will be no boundaries to the access of information.
The backbone of this environment will be a infrastructure capable of providing leading-edge, broadband convergence technologies, delivering high speed VoIP, Video on Demand, streaming multi-media information and communications. IP-based and web-accessed conference calls, video teleconferencing, and interactive collaboration will be the norm. It will permeate the installation, providing reliable, scalable, secure, and redundant connectivity regardless of location or application.
Such an environment will cause the campus and its infrastructure to be radically altered, including the transformation of culture. It will go beyond simple automation of learning and institutional processes and fundamentally transform our worlds of education, training, work, and quality of life.
The Army has recognized how technology has begun transforming the battle space environment. It knows that in order to fight and win, it must have information superiority. To achieve this, the Army requires people who understand technology and the use of technologies as force multipliers. The Academy will, through its developmental programs and an advanced technological environment, support the Army's vision by graduating and commissioning new officers who are technologically aware, and by returning to the Army soldiers and civilians who are more experienced with the use and leveraging of technology.

We are committed to making this environment a reality.
