They are all coed and may be enjoyed by military and their family members 18 years old and older, as well as DoD civilians.
The sports are softball, flag football, tennis, bowling, basketball, volleyball, racquetball and golf. Six of the eight are team sports; tennis and racquetball accept individual entries only.
Teams may be organized by military unit, civilian office, department or any group that wants to join together, according to CRD sports specialist Jim McGuinness.
Currently, softball is the only ongoing intramural sport. It runs from June until early August with games being played at Buffalo Soldier Field. Games are played twice a week.
Flag football follows in September and runs into November featuring night games at
Michie Stadium. Games are played Monday through Thursday.Bowling runs from October until
March at the Bowling Center in bldg. 622.
Basketball, noontime and nighttime leagues, start in December and extend until March, with a break for the holiday leave period. Competition takes place in Arvin Gymnasiums Hayes and North gyms. Due to construction there, play may have to be moved to Gillis Field House this season.
No ontime and nighttime volleyball leagues pick up in March and continue through May.
Racquetball is an individual sport with unit and staff & faculty tournaments held in the April-to-May timeframe at Arvin Gymnasium. Construction may affect season play.
Tennis, another individual entry sport, is offered August to October.
It also has both unit and staff & faculty tournaments. Most play takes place at Clinton Courts. Racquetball and tennis pairs opponents play weekly matches at their convenience. Intramural golf is held at the West Point Golf Course during May and June.
Teams and players can sign up at the CRD sports office located on the first floor of Arvin Gymnasium, next to the guard desk, by phone at 938-3066, or email Jim McGuinness at yj2794@exmail.usma.edu
