After Action Reports -24 November – 30 November 2009
Rugby Team (Women)
Fort Lauderdale FL
Anne Lee, Scostia Peterson, and Sharron Gianessi (all
2013) traveled to Florida this past weekend to play for the USA U20
Developmental team in the National All-Stars Championship.; USA U20 61,
South All-Stars 3; 21 November 2009; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Army Try
Scorers: Anne Lee 2, Scostia Peterson; Conversion: Anne Lee 8-9; Penalty
Kicks: None Taken; USA U20 - 54, Pacific Coast All-Stars - 7; 22 November
2009; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Army Try Scorers: Anne Lee 2, Sharron Gianessi;
Conversion: Anne Lee 7-8; Penalty Kicks: None taken; Weekend Notes: This was
their chance to earn a spot on the USA U20 National Team. All three cadets
put in great performances. Anne Lee especially impressed the USA coaching
staff scoring 4 trys and hitting 15 of 17 attempted conversions. Scostia
Peterson scored a try and played tremendous defense at fullback. Sharron
Gianessi had a slow start to the weekend, but came on strong in the Sunday
match with several long hard runs and hard work at the breakdown. Speaking
to the coaches at the end of the weekend, I feel like Anne Lee will be
invited to play against Canada in January. Sharron Gianessi and Scostia
Peterson are definitely still in the running for selections as well. From a
recruiting stand point the weekend proved successful. I spoke with several
young players with strong interest in West Point. Brianna Klein, a junior
from Wisconsin, played flanker for the USA and was very impressive. She’s
very athletic aggressive and fit. She has 3.9 GPA and indicated West Point
is her first choice. She could have an immediate impact on our team. She
plans to schedule a visit in the spring. Hannah Price, a junior from
Colorado, is a 6 2 lock with a very athletic build and a 4.0 grade point
average. She competes in downhill ski racing, holds her school record for
the squat, and she and her father were very interested in finding out more
about the Academy and scheduling a visit. The most impressive player I saw
wasn’t because of her performance, but her potential (McKenzie Hawkins from
Tennessee). At just 12 years old, she was playing and performing well along
side girls 6-8 years older. She hit a penalty goal from 25 meters and was
impressive on defense. Obviously college choices aren’t on her mind right
now, but she is definitely someone to keep an eye on.

Inline Hockey Club
Trip to: Feasterville PA
The purpose of this trip section was to practice on a regulation surface. It was our first time back on a playing surface since our last trip over the last weekend in October. It was successful in the sense that we were able to have a solid practice. On Saturday, we played an exhibition game and then returned to West Point following that.
Climbing
New Paltz NY

West Point Climbing Team After Action Report Trip Section 11/22/2009 Location: Triple Right, Mohonk Preserve Goals: -Boulder outside one last time for the 2009 season -Push our limits and improve our climbing ability -Explore an undocumented climbing area This trip was an excellent opportunity for us to explore an undocumented climbing area and experience climbing in a more nature sense. There was a great variety of climbs in the area allowing us to move locations and experience a completely different style of routes. This variety in styles allowed us to practice and develop a number of different skills, making this a very lucrative trip for all of us. There were some easy but fun vertical climbs as well as a very challenging overhanging route that posed a challenge even for our coach. In addition to personal development, there was also a great deal of team growth that resulted from this trip. The difficulty of some of the climbs made climbing the routes a team project. We would all take turns climbing the route, taking advice from our teammates and in putting our own tips for the climb. This teamwork resulted in many members of the team climbing routes and making moves that were very difficult. Some notable climbs included Dan Thueneman and Paul Park hitting very challenging jumping moves that were difficult for all of us, and Scott Mead climbing a V7-8 boulder problem. This teamwork undoubtedly strengthened our team camaraderie. We accomplished our goals, pushed our climbing limits and further developed our abilities. This trip was an excellent experience and learning opportunity. It was obvious that the team got a great deal out of this trip.
