COMPANY ATHLETICS
The mission of company athletics
is to develop warrior athletes of character and build teams of significance
through a cadet led and instructor supervised program. Company athletics has
a Fall and a Spring Season with
six sports offered each season.
Competition in company athletics
is based on the military organization of West Point. Each company is
represented by one team in each sport. During the regular season, a company
competes against other companies in its regiment. At the end of the season,
regimental champions participate in a playoff to determine a brigade
champion.
All teams are coached by
upper-class cadets. They plan
and conduct practice sessions, teach skills, implement game strategy, and
assign grades for all of their players. They are expected to model ethical
and moral conduct and display humility in victory and graciousness in
defeat.
Record contests are refereed by
upper-class cadets. They are
expected to demonstrate professionalism, good judgment, and strong
decision-making. Sport educators from the Department of Physical Educations
serve as mentors for the cadets-in-charge, coaches, and referees.
