Ft. Monmouth, NJ – The West Point Prep
Women’s Basketball team ended its 2010-11 season by
notching a convincing 76-58 win over arch rival Navy
Prep at the Tri-Service Academy Classic.
The “Star Game” victory marks the Black Knights’ seventh
win in their last eight contests against NAPS dating
back to the 2005-06 season.
West Point Prep’s back court trio of Janelle Travis,
Krishawn Tillett, and Stephanie Erskine combined to
score 71 of the team’s 76 total points. Travis exploded
for a season-high 33 points including five baskets from
behind the arc to lead the Black Knights. Tillett
dropped 20 points and Erskine added 18 to go along with
eight rebounds.
The USMAPS lead was cut to six late in the first half,
but a Travis ‘3’ from 35 feet out gave the Black Knights
a 42-33 halftime lead. The team was plagued by
significant foul trouble throughout the second half but
managed to open up a to a 13-point lead with 12:36
remaining which would only increase from there. The
team converted 86% of its free throws and 45% of its
three-point attempts.
Fran Charles led the Black Knights’ interior defensive
effort and collected six rebounds in a stellar
performance.
“Our guard corps did an outstanding job of attacking
gaps and kicking to shooters. Our discipline, and focus
offensively was exceptional,” said fourth-year head
coach Brendan Copes.
The Black Knights avenged a December 4th loss
which saw the squad drop a 12-point decision to the Rams
while giving up 75 points. The team’s defense has been
stifling of late, holding teams to an average of 45
points over their last six games.
“Our defense has been the area of our program that has
improved the most over the last few months. We put
together a much more complete defensive effort than last
time,” said Copes.

West Point Prep vs. West Point JV |

West Point, NY
-- Janelle Travis' heave from 45 feet came up just
short and the West Point JV team narrowly escaped
with a 55-52 win on the Christl Arena floor.
Krishawn Tillett notched a
game-high 21 points to lead the Black Knights who
fell behind by as many as 10 points in the second
half. Ella Mason collected 13 rebounds to lead
the Black Knights' interior game.
Tillett tallied 15 points after
halftime and Travis connected on three attempts from
behind the arc in the second half to help the Black
Knights battle back. Stephanie Erskine chipped
in with seven points.
The team will play host to Blair
Academy on January 26th. The women will play
the first game of a men/women doubleheader with the
first game starting at 4:00pm. |

-- Stephanie Erskine scored a game-high 20 points as
four players scored in double figures as the USMAPS
Women's Basketball team took down the Hun School by
a final of 60-49.
Erskine, Krishawn Tillett, and
Janelle Travis all connected from behind the arc as
the Black Knights carried a 35-29 lead into the
intermission.
Ella Mason notched 11 points to
go along with 12 rebounds. Tillett added 14
points and Travis chipped in with 13.
The team will travel to West
Point to take on the JV team on January 24th.
Game time is set for 6pm. |

West Point Prep vs. The Peddie School |

Hightstown, NJ
-- After a disappointing loss to the Hill School at
home, the USMAPS Black Knights bounced back to beat
the Peddie School and even their season record at
5-5.
Stephanie Erskine led the way for the Knights, as
she exploded for 22 points on 7-8 shooting from
behind the arc. Krishawn Tillett and Janelle
Travis each connected from long range and tallied 13
and 12 points respectively.
The Black Knights will travel to
Philadelphia, PA to face the Bears from Harcum
College in a men's/women's doubleheader on Tuesday,
January 11th. The women will tip at 6pm and
the men's game will follow at 8pm. |

-- In their first game back after a long holiday
break, the USMAPS Women's basketball team dropped a
hard-fought decision to the Hill School by a final
of 46-44. Janelle Travis led the Black Knights
with 11 points to go along with four assists.
Stephanie Erskine chipped in 10 points including
three baskets from behind the arc
Krishawn Tillett and Dajah Davis
added nine points apiece. Ella Mason provided
a solid interior presence by corralling nine
rebounds.
The team will face off with The
Peddie School on Thursday, January 6th in
Hightstown, NJ. Game time is set for 4:30pm. |

Worcester, MA
-- The USMAPS Women's Basketball dropped their
opening game in the Thomas Blackburn Basketball
Tournament held at Worcester Academy to Blair
Academy by a final of 50-35.
The Black Knights and the Bucs unfortunately
determined the tournament champion on the first day
as both teams easily cruised to second day
victories.
In the tournament's opening round
Stephanie Erskine led the Knights with 14 points on
three of four shooting from behind the arc.
Krishawn Tillett chipped in 10 points and eight
rebounds. Ella Mason provided a solid interior
presence for USMAPS against a heavily touted Blair
Academy frontcourt. Mason corralled 11
rebounds and came away with two blocked shots.
The second day of action saw the
Black Knights throttle Deerfield Academy by a final of
54-21. Erskine, Tillett, and Janelle Travis all
scored in double figures as the balanced attack of the
Black Knights proved to be too much for Deerfield.
Deerfield could not handle the USMAPS
defensive pressure and only came away with six first
half points.
For her efforts, Stephanie Erskine
was named to the All-Tournament team.
The Black Knights will enjoy a layoff
for the holiday break and will return to action in the
new year when they host the Hill School at Fort
Monmouth, NJ on January 4, 2011. Tip time is

-- After a tough loss at Navy Prep, the Black
Knights regrouped and bounced back to win the second
game of their Rhode Island swing as they knocked off
Community College of Rhode Island by a final of
63-57 on Sunday afternoon.
USMAPS ran out to a 36-24
halftime lead but the lead would dwindle to three
with seven minutes to play. Exceptional free
throw shooting down the stretch proved to be the key
to the game as the Black Knights converted on 13 of
15 attempts from the charity stripe.
Janelle Travis poured in a
game-high 20 points including a 6-6 clip at the free
throw line, and four baskets from beyond the arc.
Ella Mason contributed 11 points including 5 for 5
from the free throw line to go along with her eight
rebounds.
The team will next travel to
Worcester, MA to take part in the Blackburn
Tournament held at Worcester Academy. The
Black Knights will square off against Blair Academy
Saturday at 1:15pm. |

-- The USMAPS Women's Basketball team fell to
archrival Navy Prep for the first time in six years
as the midshipmen claimed a 75-63 victory on their
home floor. The Black Knights had won the
previous seven meetings between the long time
rivals.
Krishawn Tillett tallied 16
points, while Janelle Travis and Stephanie Erskine
notched 14 and 12 points respectively. Ella
Mason chipped in with a team-high 10 rebounds.
The Black Knights will endure a
quick turnaround as they will travel up to Warwick,
RI to take on NJCAA Division II power Community
College of Rhode Island. Game time is set for
1pm as part of a men's/women's doubleheader. |

|
|
West Point, NY -- The USMAPS Women's
Basketball team was upended this evening by the JV
team from West Point by a final of 57-45.
Stephanie Erskine tallied a team-high 16 points in
her first real action since returning from a foot
injury. Erskine canned three baskets from
behind the arc.
The JV's led by as many as 20 in
the second half but cooled off and allowed USMAPS to
get back to within two points with 13 minutes left
to play. Transition baskets by former
prepsters Krista Goltra and Karleen Paulin jump
started a JV run at the 12:34 mark which extended
the lead for good.
The Black Knights will enjoy an
extended break for the holiday before returning to
the court on December 4th to take on arch-rival Navy
Prep in Newport, RI. Game time is 12pm. |

NJ
-- The USMAPS Women's Basketball team carried a
36-16 halftime lead and never looked back as they
ran away from Camden CC last evening. Krishawn
Tillett led the way for the Black Knights scoring 16
points and collecting 8 rebounds.
Ella Mason tallied eight points
to go along with 10 rebounds which extends her
double digit rebound streak to three games.
The Black Knights will travel to
West Point on November 22 to take on the West Point
JV team. Game time is 6pm.

West Point Prep vs. Northampton CC |

Bethlehem, PA
-- Krishawn Tillett tallied 22 points on 9-13
shooting as the USMAPS Women;s Basketball team
picked up its first win of the season, knocking off
nationally-ranked Northampton CC by a final of
68-37.
The Black Knights fell behind
early and trailed 13-6 at the 13-minute mark of the
first half. USMAPS would eventually claw its
way back in and used a 22-8 run to close out the
first half. Tillett's seven points and
Francheska Charles' eight rebounds led the first
half charge.
The Black Knights did not ease up
to start the second stanza. A Janelle Travis
'3' from the right wing and a Dajah Davis offensive
rebound putback extended the USMAPS lead early in
the second half. Austen Harris' lay in at the
14:20 mark made it a 39-24 Black Knight lead.
With 4:32 left Travis found Tillett
at the basket on a 3/4 court lead pass, which made the
score 56-34.
Tillett also collected five rebounds
and dished out three assists. Janelle Travis
notched 18 points to go along with seven assists and
four rebounds. Charles and Ella Mason controlled
the glass as they combined for 26 rebounds. Austen
Harris chipped in 13 points on 5-6 shooting from the
free throw line.
The Black Knights will next travel to
Blackwood, NJ on Thursday, November 18 to take on
the Cougars from Camden CC. Tip time is set for
6pm.

Heights, NY
-- The USMAPS Women's Basketball team dropped its
season opener by a final of 76-50. ASA proved
to deep and too fast for the Black Knights, who
dropped to 0-1 on the season. The Black
Knights led 5-2 but quickly found themselves down
13-6.
ASA extended to a 12-point
halftime lead and the Black Knights never got any
closer. Janelle Travis tallied a team-high 13
points on 3-5 shooting from behind the arc.
The team will travel to
Northampton CC on Monday 11-15-10. Tip time is
set for 5pm as part of a men's/women's doubleheader.
