USMAPS HISTORY CLUB

The mission of the USMAPS Military History and Strategy Club is to provide cadet candidates an interesting and enjoyable way to learn military history and tactics by simulating historical battles using miniature soldiers, military equipment, and three-dimensional terrain pieces.

The primary activity of the Military History and Strategy Club is to re-fight historic battles in the academic buildingon Friday nights. Pre-game activities start at 1830 hours, and battles begin at 1900. Battles last until completed, usually around 2200 hours. Snacks and drinks are provided, and all are welcome to drop by, even if they do not participate.

In keeping with the historic focus of the club, the year’s activities are divided into monthly themes:

  • August and September-the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812
  • October- the American Civil War
  • November- Indian and Colonial Wars
  • December-World War I
  • January-World War II
  • February- World War II
  • March-the Korean and Vietnam Wars
  • April-Modern Conflicts-Panama, the Gulf War, Somalia, etc.
  • May-Iraq

What can the club do for you?

  1. Give you a better insight into military history and tactics.
  2. Help you prepare for the class “History of the Military Art,” a required course at West Point.
  3. Provide you with information about an interesting and enjoyable hobby.

Additional notes:

If there is enough interest, the club may take trips to local historic sites, including the Monmouth battlefield, the Intrepid Air and Space Museum, Independence Hall, and Valley Forge. If you have questions, see the club’s sponsor, Mr. Waller, in room 218 of the academic building.
