COL Brian J. Reed was commissioned as an infantry officer in 1989 from the United States Military Academy. His first assignment was in Germany as a rifle platoon leader with 1st Battalion 16th Infantry, 1stInfantry Division (Forward) and then as a rifle platoon leader, support platoon leader, and company executive officer with 2nd Battalion 6th Infantry, 1st Armored Division. After completion of the Infantry Officer Advanced Course, COL Reed served in 3rd Brigade 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, as the Brigade S3 Air and then commanded C Company, 4th Battalion 87th Infantry and A Company, 2nd Battalion 27thInfantry. After attending graduate school at the University of Maryland, COL Reed served on the faculty at West Point in the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Leadership. Upon completion of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, COL Reed was assigned to the 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas. Here he served as the Battalion Operations Officer and then the Battalion Executive Officer of 1st Battalion 22ndInfantry, and later as the Brigade Operations Officer for 1st Brigade. Following this assignment, he returned to graduate school as a military fellow in the Center for Research on Military Organization at the University of Maryland and completed his Ph.D. in Sociology. COL Reed was the Battalion Commander of 1st Battalion 24th Infantry (Stryker), Ft. Wainwright, Alaska, from December 2006 to December 2009. Next he served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Leadership at West Point and then completed a Senior Service College Fellowship at Teacher’s College, Columbia University. From May 2012 to June 2014, COL Reed was the Brigade Commander of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division. Following Brigade Command, he served as the Director of the Commander’s Action Group at U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM) from July 2014 to May 2016. COL Reed has participated in several operational deployments to include tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, and he has travelled extensively in the Middle East and South and Central Asia as a member of the personal staff for the Commander, USCENTCOM. He is Ranger, Airborne, and Air Assault qualified, and has earned the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and the Expert Infantryman’s Badge.
