Biography

Colonel Nguyen graduated from Santa Clara University with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry and was commissioned as a military intelligence officer in the United States Army in 1997. She subsequently earned a master of science degree in management from University of Maryland University College in 2003, and master of science and doctoral degrees in chemistry from University of California Santa Barbara in 2005 and 2016, respectively.

Colonel Nguyen is an Academy Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Life Science and serves as the Program Director for an American Chemical Society (ACS) certified Chemistry Program. She is the course director for General Chemistry II, Inorganic Chemistry, and Polymer Chemistry. She is actively involved in advising Cadets as a Department Academic Counselor, mentoring Cadets as a research advisor, and facilitating enrichment opportunities for Cadets as the officer-in-charge of the ACS Student Section at West Point.

Ongoing Research Projects

Colonel Nguyen leads a research group that focuses on the synthesis and characterization of tunable composite and functionalized materials with novel properties that can be leveraged for applications that support Department of Defense and Department of the Army science and technology priorities. Ongoing research efforts include synthesis and characterization of organometallic compounds for applications in nonlinear optics, functionalized porous and nonporous silica nanoparticles for the development of therapeutics, metal organic framework for the degradation of toxic chemicals, and investigating the properties of polymeric materials for optimization in 3D printing applications.
