Biography

Lieutenant Colonel Justin Toole commissioned as a Distinguished Military Graduate through Army ROTC at the University of North Georgia (Dahlonega, GA).  As a junior Engineer officer, he served as a Platoon Leader, Company XO, and Company Commander in mechanized, route clearance, and training units at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. During that time, he deployed to Baghdad, Iraq as a Route Clearance Platoon Leader.  As a field grade officer, he served as Deputy Division Engineer and Battalion S3/XO within the 3rd BCT, 101st Airborne Division (Fort Campbell, KY).  He deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan as a Combined Task Force XO.  Later, Lieutenant Colonel Toole served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) as a Deputy District Commander (Nashville, TN).

Ongoing Research Projects

Lieutenant Colonel Toole conducted graduate research in constructing instruments and measuring optical properties of aerosols and 2-dimensional (“atomically-flat”) semiconductors.  He particularly enjoys spectroscopy, microscopy, photo-electrochemistry, and mass spectrometry.
