Biography
Dr. Andrew J. Banko is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil & Mechanical Engineering at the United States Military Academy, West Point. He earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2012, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University in 2014 and 2018, respectively. Prior to coming to West Point, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford's Center for Turbulence Research. Dr. Banko's research combines experiments and computation to uncover the dynamics of complex turbulent flows with applications in health, energy, and the environment. Recent projects include aerosol transport in the human airways, radiative and convective heat transfer in particle-based solar receivers, contaminant dispersion in urban areas, data-driven modeling of separated flows, and the development magnetic resonance imaging measurement techniques.
Ongoing Research Projects
Measurement and analysis of turbulent dispersion in urban areas using magnetic resonance imaging
Turbulent transport in porous structures
Multi-modal heat transfer in particle-laden flow
Data-driven RANS modeling using neural networks and gene expression programming
