Biography


A native of South Jersey, Lieutenant Colonel Shoshannah B. Lane graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1999 and received her commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Aviation Branch.  After attending flight school and the Officers Basic Course, she was assigned to 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment at Fort Hood, Texas, as an Aeroscout Platoon Leader, Assistant S-3, and Deputy Secretary of the General Staff for 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized).  She deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003-2004). LTC Lane then completed the Aviation Captains Career Course and OH-58D Maintenance Test Pilot before moving to Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. While assigned to the 25th Combat Aviation Brigade, she deployed again to Iraq (2006-2007) and assumed command of D Troop, 2nd Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment. Upon completion of this assignment, she earned a master’s degree in German from Middlebury College and taught German at the United States Military Academy. After departing West Point, LTC Lane attended the Army’s Intermediate Level Education at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and simultaneously earned a master’s in Supply Chain Management from the University of Kansas. With a follow-on assignment at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, she commanded B Company, 96th Aviation Support and deployed to Bagram, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (2012-2013).  Upon return, she assumed duties as the Executive Officer for the 2nd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment.  LTC Lane then served as the Strategic Outreach Officer for the Chief of Staff of the Army in the Pentagon.  Most recently, LTC Lane commanded the 46th Aviation Support Battalion, 16th Combat Aviation Brigade, at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.  She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in German and Second Language Acquisition from Georgetown University. LTC Lane’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Iraq and Afghanistan Campaign Medals, the Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, the Combat Action Badge, the Senior Aviator Badge, the Army Parachutist Badge, the Air Assault Badge, and the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge in Gold. LTC Lane currently resides with her family at West Point, New York.
