MAJ Thomas W. Cagle graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in French shortly before the events of 9/11/2001. After 9/11, he joined the US Army as a 98G Cryptologic Linguist (now 35P) and studied Modern Standard Arabic at the Defense Language Institute, graduating at the top of his class and earning the Commandant’s Award. MAJ Cagle served as an Arabic Linguist with the 206^th Military Intelligence Battalion at Fort Gordon, Georgia, and was quickly promoted to Staff Sergeant. He then attended the Army Basic Instructor Course and served as an instructor for the Basic Cryptologic Linguist Course at Goodfellow Air Force Base and then as a Military Language Instructor at the Defense Language Institute. As a Sergeant First Class, MAJ Cagle served as the Chief Military Language Instructor for Middle East School 1 at the Defense Language Institute and was then selected to attend Officer Candidate School in 2011.

MAJ Cagle was a distinguished military graduate from Officer Candidate School and selected the Signal Corps as his branch. He attended the Signal Basic Officer Leader Course in 2012 and was assigned to the 4^th Special Troops Battalion, 4^th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 4^th Infantry Division as his first officer assignment. MAJ Cagle served as Executive Officer and then Platoon Leader for one of the brigade’s two Joint Network Node platoons. MAJ Cagle was then transferred to 2^nd Battalion, 77^th Field Artillery Regiment in 2014 to serve as the Battalion Communications Officer for three years.

MAJ Cagle deployed twice to Kandahar, Afghanistan with 2-77FAR in 2014 and 2016 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. As the task force Communications Officer, MAJ Cagle managed a vast array of communications platforms for a multi-national task force of 1300 personnel conducting critical advisory and force protection missions in the region. In 2017, MAJ Cagle attended the Signal Captains Career Course and was assigned as commander of the United States Army Signal School Detachment at Fort Meade, Maryland, responsible for training Soldiers in the specialties of Combat Camera, Multimedia Illustration, Audio-visual Repair, and Public Affairs.

MAJ Cagle was assigned as an Arabic Instructor at the United States Military Academy in 2022. He holds a Master of Arts Degree in Middle East Studies from the Elliott School for International Affairs at the George Washington University (2022), a Bachelor of Arts Degree in French from Baylor University (2001), and an Associates Degree in Arabic from the Defense Language Institute (2003). MAJ Cagle’s awards and decorations include: Combat Action Badge; Bronze Star Medal; Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal; Joint Commendation Medal; Army Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal; German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge.
