Biography


Major Michael Mellman graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Arabic and French. He commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in Military Intelligence and was assigned to the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, completing a deployment to Afghanistan with the brigade.

MAJ Mellman then served as a battalion intelligence officer (S-2) with the 173rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne) in Vicenza, Italy, and subsequently assumed command as the first company commander of Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC), 207th Military Intelligence Brigade (Theater), also located in Vicenza. Following company command, MAJ Mellman served as US Army Africa's (USARAF) liaison officer to the French joint staff headquarters in Paris, France, and as an international military affairs officer with the USARAF Security Cooperation Directorate (SCD), assisting in the oversight of U.S. Army engagement in Africa.

MAJ Mellman was accessed as a Foreign Area Officer in 2017 and attended The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., from 2018 to 2020, where he earned a Master of Arts degree in Middle East Studies with a professional specialization in U.S. Foreign Policy.

MAJ Mellman’s awards include the Army Commendation Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Parachutist Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.

He lives with his wife and son in Cornwall, NY.
