Biography
Major Eric V. Muirhead graduated from the College of William and Mary in Virginia in 2008 with a B.A. in Psychology and Minor in History. He enlisted in the Army and attended Basic Combat Training and Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, GA (known as Fort Moore, GA since 2023). He commissioned as an Infantry Officer and served as a Mechanized Infantry Platoon Leader in 5th HBCT, 1st Armored Division and Scout Platoon Leader and Squadron Logistical Officer in 2nd ABCT, 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss, TX from 2009 to 2012. After attending the Maneuver Captain’s Career Course, Major Muirhead transferred to Armor in 2012 and served as a Battalion Planner and Armor Company Commander in 1-5 CAV and a Troop Commander in 4-9 CAV in 2nd ABCT, 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, TX (known as Fort Cavazos, TX since 2023). In 2019, he received a MA in Modern German History from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and served as an Assistant Professor of History at the United States Military Academy from 2019 to 2021. After graduating from the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS in 2022, he served as the Battalion Operations Officer and Battalion Executive Officer of 2-37 AR in 1st ABCT, 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss, TX from 2022-2024 before returning to West Point. Major Muirhead has operational deployments to Afghanistan and the Republic of Korea.
