Professor LaKeysia Harvin is originally from Florida. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in business economics from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Florida School of Law in Gainesville. She also has an LL.M. from the Army Judge Advocate General's Legal Center and School in Charlottesville, VA, and an LL.M. in International Law from the University of California-Los Angeles.

Upon graduating from law school, she worked as an assistant state attorney for the 12th Judicial Circuit, Office of the State Attorney in Bradenton, FL. In that position, she represented the State of Florida in many misdemeanor and juvenile court cases.

In 2000, she was commissioned into the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps. After commissioning, she served in several key assignments throughout the Army. Her previous assignments include: Chief, Legal Assistance and Administrative Law Attorney, 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized), Fort Hood, TX (known as Fort Cavazos since 2023); Labor Law Attorney, U.S. Army Reserve Command, Fort McPherson, GA; Trial Defense Counsel, Fort Knox, KY; Chief, Military Justice, 3d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) Fort Knox and Iraq; Administrative Law Attorney, U.S. Armor Center and School, Fort Knox; and Deputy Staff Judge Advocate, U.S. Army South, Fort Sam Houston, TX; Fiscal Law and Freedom of Information Attorney, U.S. Central Command, MacDill Air Force Base, FL; and Deputy Staff Judge Advocate, U.S. Army Central Command, Shaw Air Force Base, SC.

In 2017, she was stationed at the United States Military Academy, teaching international and constitutional law. In 2021, she retired from active duty as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army.  

Professor Harvin continues to serve as an assistant professor teaching constitutional law in the Department of Law and Philosophy.
