Biography
Brent Habley is a U.S. Army Major and Assistant Professor in the Department of Law at the United States Military Academy, at West Point, New York. Major Habley graduated from the University of Iowa in 2004, earning a B.A. with honors in Sociology. In 2008, Major Habley earned his Juris Doctorate, from Creighton University School of Law, with a concentration in Criminal Law and Procedure. He also served as the Creighton Law School Student Bar Association President in 2007-2008.
Major Habley commissioned in the U.S. Army as a Judge Advocate in 2009. During his Army career, Major Habley has served in numerous assignments including Trial Counsel, 159th Combat Aviation Brigade (101st Airborne Division), Defense Counsel (Fort Liberty), Operational Law Attorney for XVIII Airborne Corps, Special Victim Counsel (Fort Liberty), Brigade Judge Advocate, 3d Sustainment Brigade (3rd Infantry Division), and Chief of Military Justice, 21st Theater Sustainment Command (Kaiserslautern, Germany). Major Habley has deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2011 and to Kuwait/Iraq in support of Operation Inherent Resolve in 2017. Major Habley has also earned his LL.M in Military Law from the Army Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School in 2019.
