Foreign Language: Persian Major Foreign Language: Persian Major The sphere of influence of the Persian language and culture, or the Persianate World, stretches from China in the East through Central Asia to Georgia and Azerbaijan in the north, the Persian Gulf in the South, and Kurdistan in the West. Persian language majors will follow a track of courses designed to develop their Persian language proficiency and cultural understanding. You will also receive a strong complement of multi-disciplinary courses from other departments, in order to contextualize and deepen your knowledge of the region. Our curriculum can accommodate learners of all skill levels. An honors option is available This program will give you the skills you need to succeed both as a consumer and practitioner of the language. Finally, you will be given multiple opportunities to travel abroad, either through Summer Immersion or a full semester abroad. Cadets can choose from a Persian language major or combine Persian and another language for a dual language major. Each of these options can be taken as an honors program. Options also exist to spend five months studying in Yerevan, Armenia, enjoy Spring Break in a Persian-speaking community like Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and LA, or to spend three to eight weeks on an Academic Individual Advanced Development (AIAD) program, USMA-run academic enrichment experience, in Persian-speaking communities in Central Asia and Europe.
