Biography


LTC Russell Nelson, PhD, serves as the Associate Director of the Operations Research Program for the Department of Mathematical Sciences at West Point. LTC Nelson holds a B.S. in Engineering Management (USMA, 2005), an M.S. in Applied Mathematics (NPS 2015), and a PhD in Operations Research (NCSU, 2023). His research interests include optimization, transportation modeling, and Army aviation & logistics. Prior to joining the USMA faculty, LTC Nelson served in the operational Army as an Aviation officer, with combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, and as an operations research / systems analyst (ORSA) at Army Test and Evaluation Command (ATEC).

Ongoing contested logistics collaboration with the US Army Corps of Engineers Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC).
