Major Melanie Gouthro is a 2010 graduate of West Point with a major in American Politics. Upon commissioning as a Second Lieutenant in the Military Intelligence Corps, she completed the MI Basic Officer Leadership Course in Fort Huachuca, Arizona. Following, she was assigned to 4th Brigade, 10th Mountain Division at Fort Polk, Louisiana where she held positions of S2, SIGINT Platoon Leader, MICO XO, and BDE SIGINT OIC including two combat deployments to Afghanistan (2011 and 2013-2014). In 2016, upon completing the Civil Affairs Qualification Course and assessing into the Civil Affairs Branch, she was assigned to the 83rd Civil Affairs Battalion at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. As a Team Leader with C/83rd, a EUCOM-aligned company, completed a deployment to Poland (2016-2017). She was then appointed as the Civil-Military Operations Center Chief with B/83rd, an AFRICOM-aligned company, working at U.S. Army Africa HQ in Vicenza, Italy coordinating Civil Affairs operations in Africa (2018). Major Gouthro holds a Master's Degree of International Affairs in International Security Policy from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs (2021).
