received a BS degree from the United States Military Academy, an MSEE from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Ph.D. in EE from RPI. He is the Adam Chair in Information Technology in the Department of EE&CS at USMA. Dr. James was commissioned as an Air Defense Artillery officer in 1967 and commanded three times at the company level including command a of a nuclear-capable, long-range, air defense artillery battery in Germany, command of light infantry operations in South Vietnam as a District Senior Advisor, and command of a short-range air defense artillery battery with the 1st Armored Division in Germany. His final tour in the Army he was the Director of the Artificial Intelligence Center for the U. S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), developing over 30 small decision-support systems and leading the creation of installation advanced technology groups which became the TRADOC Battle Laboratories. For three years he was the Chairman of the IEEE Control System Society (CSS) Computer-Aided Control System Design (CACSD) Technical Committee (TC). He has been the Program Chair or Publications Chair (or both) for the eight IEEE Information Assurance Workshops. His technical interests are in modeling of complex, real-time, decision-support systems.
