Systems Engineering
LTC Patrick Mugg is an FA49 Operations Research Systems Analyst (ORSA) officer and Assistant Professor in the Department of Systems Engineering. Patrick holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the Naval Postgraduate School with a focus in numerical analysis and scientific computation for advancing solutions to hyperbolic systems of partial differential equations using extrapolated multi-rate time integration schemes.
LTC Mugg commissioned from USMA in 2003 into the Military Intelligence Branch where he has served as a tactical intelligence officer at every echelon from BN, BDE, and DIV with tactical intelligence experience in armor, infantry and sustainment units. He has also served as a BN executive officer within an Expeditionary Military Intelligence BDE (EMIB), and as a Corps G2 and G5 plans officer. He has deployed to Iraq three times with his last deployment serving as the senior intelligence officer on an 11-person advisory team to the Iraqi National Police.
Patrick has served at West Point multiple times and taught within the Department of Mathematical Sciences from 2012-2015 and 2021-2024. He is married to his wife Nicole.
