MAJ Peter Mitchell Senior Instructor Course Director Department of Military Instruction peter.mitchell [at] westpoint.edu About Education Research & Publications Peter Mitchell is a native of Philadelphia, PA. He graduated from the United States Military Academy with a B.S. in International History and was commissioned into the Air Defense Artillery in 2012. He transferred to FA59 Strategist in 2024. MAJ Mitchell has participated in deployments and exercises from PACOM to CENTCOM including Guam, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and UAE. Although a HIMAD specialist, he is familiar with the operational employment of all air defense systems of record from M-SHORAD to THAAD. CPT Mitchell is a graduate of the Air Defense Artillery Basic Officer Leadership Course, the Air Defense Artillery Captains Career Course and the Space Operations Course. He has a Master of Arts in European Studies from Columbia University, writing his thesis on the Baltic States and their contemporary foreign policy in the Caucasus. He has written and presented extensively on the employment of ballistic missiles, air support, unmanned systems, and air defense in the Russo-Ukraine War and the War in Gaza.
