Biography
MAJ Andrew Wilhelm is a 3rd year instructor in the Core Physics Program with the Department of Physics and Nuclear Engineering. He graduated from the United States Military Academy in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics. After commissioning as an Armor officer, MAJ Wilhelm served as a tank platoon leader and tank company executive officer in 1-8 IN, 3 BCT, 4th ID. During that time, he deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 10-11 and Operation New Dawn. Following the Maneuver Captain’s Career Course, MAJ Wilhelm served as the Assistant Operations Officer in 5-73 CAV, 3 BCT, 82nd ABN DIV. In 2014, he took command of A/5-73 CAV, and in 2015 deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. Following redeployment, MAJ Wilhelm took command of HHT/5-73 CAV. After command, MAJ Wilhelm transitioned to Functional Area 52 (Nuclear and Counter-proliferation) and attended graduate school at the University of Michigan, earning a Master’s of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering. His research focused on gamma spectroscopy in high flux environments, pulsed fast neutron interrogation, and solving inverse problems. MAJ Wilhelm is originally from Corvallis, Oregon. He is married to the former Allison McCullough. Together they have three children: Madeline (8), Benjamin (5), and Margaret (3).
