Biography
MAJ Joshua Mashl commissioned as an Engineer officer from the United States Military Academy (USMA) in 2009. He holds a B.S. in Nuclear Engineer Science from USMA, an M.S. in Engineering Management from the Missouri University of Science and Technology, and an M.S. in Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences from the University of Michigan. In 2017, he transitioned into the Army’s Functional Area 52 (Nuclear and Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Officer) field.
He served as both a platoon leader and executive officer for C Company, 2nd Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team (Armored), 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized) in both garrison and deployed environments. He commanded the 573rd Clearance Company, 46th Engineer Battalion, 20th Engineer Brigade (Airborne) in Fort Johnson, LA. After company command, MAJ Mashl served as an ROTC instructor at the Marion Military Institute for one year before enrolling as a graduate student at the University of Michigan. Following graduate school, he served as a Nuclear Operations Planner for the 20th Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) Command and both a Nuclear Operations Officer and Deputy Team Chief for Nuclear Disablement Team (NDT) 1 within the 20th CBRNE Command. The NDTs have a unique mission to characterize and, on order, sample and/or disable nuclear infrastructure.
His military education includes Air Assault School, Engineer Officers Basic Course (BOLC), Mechanized Leaders Course, Route Reconnaissance and Clearance Course, Engineer Captains Career Course (ECCC), Rappel Master Course, Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Advisor’s Course, and the Command and General Staff College (CGSC).
MAJ Mashl currently serves as an PH201 (Physics I) instructor.
MAJ Mashl is married to Roynan Mashl; they have three beautiful children: Camilla, Grant, and Llewyn. They also have a miniature schnauzer named Bronco.
