The Turma ad Latinam, West Point’s cadet Latin club, works collectively to translate a Latin text that will be useful to students of ancient or medieval history.  In AY2022, the Turma tackled the account of the 1356 Poitiers Campaign written by a monk of Malmesbury in the Eulogium Historiarum.  The translation will be used in HI370, “Ancient and Medieval Warfare,” which features a three-lesson colloquium on the campaign, and will be published on the website of De Re Militari: The Society for Medieval Military History.

Timeline

During the fall of 2022, the cadets of the Turma will work with the DHC Cartographer, Mr. Jeffrey Goldberg, to create an interactive “story map” that integrates the text with a progressive map showing the route of the Black Prince’s army to the battlefield, for which the Eulogium is the best source.
