Ongoing Research Projects
“Reevaluating the Security-Insecurity Paradox.” This paper examines the link between a state’s nuclear status and its propensity to initiate militarized disputes, and finds that there is a highly significant and positive relationship between nuclear weapons and conflict initiation. The piece also explores heterogeneity within militarized disputes, and finds that, while nuclear-armed dyads may be more likely to engage in interstate conflict, they are also less likely to engage adversaries at higher thresholds of violence.
