LTC Steve Gillespie is an Academy Professor in the Department of Systems Engineering at USMA. He currently serves as the Systems Engineering (SE) Program Director. He commissioned as a Distinguished Military Graduate from Boston University ROTC. From 2006 to 2013, LTC Gillespie served as an infantry officer in the 173rd Airborne Brigade and 4th Infantry Division. During this time, he deployed twice to Afghanistan and once to Iraq. Most notably, his platoon leader experiences were captured in the documentary Restrepo. From 2016 to 2019 he served as an Assistant Professor of Systems Engineering at USMA and analyst in the Operations Research Center (ORCEN). He then served at The Research Analysis Center (TRAC), Fort Leavenworth from 2019 - 2023 where he focused on combat simulations to support several key studies. He returned to USMA as an Academy Professor in 2023.
