MAJ Benjamin Schmidt enlisted in the U.S. Army as a crypto-linguist analyst in 2002. He attended Korean language training at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA, for a year before being accepted to the U.S. Military Academy Preparatory School (USMAPS) in 2004. Upon graduating from USMAPS in 2005, he matriculated to the United States Military Academy and graduated with the Class of 2009, receiving a B.S. in engineering psychology. 

MAJ Schmidt is commissioned as an Armor Officer. His duty assignments include 4th Infantry Division out of Fort Carson, CO (2010-13); 8th Army out of Yongsan, Republic of Korean (2014-15); 1st Cavalry Division out of Fort Cavazos, TX (2015-18); and 7th Infantry Division out of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA (2021-24). His military schooling includes Air Assault School (2007), Armor Officer Basic Course (2010), Stryker Leader Course (2010), Army Reconnaissance Course (2010), Maneuver Captains Career Course (2014), Ranger School (2014), Intermediate Level Education (2021), and Cavalry Leaders Course (2023).
