Charles is Michigan-native who commissioned as an Engineer officer after graduating from Michigan State University in 2002. He subsequently has served in light infantry and combat engineer airborne units at Ft. Liberty and in Alaska. Charles has served in combat deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan. He has master's degrees in Geological Engineering from the University of Missouri S&T and Ecology from Cornell University. Since 2016, Charles has taught 7 courses at USMA while serving in the Departments of Chemistry & Life Science and Geography & Environmental Engineering. Charles has taught Charles is married to his wife, Dana, and they have 10 children; they own a cut-flower farm near Ithaca, NY. Charles' current research focus is fungal bioremediation of antimony contamination on shooting ranges.
