
CPT David Marthy grew up in Latham, New York and earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York.
After serving for a short time as an infantryman in the New York Army National Guard, CPT Marthy commissioned through ROTC into the infantry branch, where he served as a platoon leader with the 1st Stryker BCT in the 4th ID at Fort Carson, Colorado. CPT Marthy then served as a platoon leader in the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) in Arlington National Cemetery. After promoting to Captain, he transitioned to the military intelligence branch, where he served as a battalion S-2 and deployed to Iraq and Central America as a member of 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne).
CPT Marthy arrived at West Point in 2024 with a master’s in history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is joined by his wife, Kayla, their daughters, Elizabeth and Charlotte, and their dog, Lola.
