
LTC Zgonc is a Medical Service Corps officer with operational and staff experience around the United States and its territories as well in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Republic of Korea. As an Environmental Science and Engineering Officer, an area of concentration within the Medical Service Corps, he has advised commanders at the brigade and division echelons on medical threats to the fighting strength, served as a project officer conducting, among other services, water system sanitary surveys, and both led and commanded preventive medicine specialists in their missions to serve as public health inspectors and gatherers of deployed service member long-term health risk assessment data. LTC Zgonc formerly served as an Engineer officer with force protection emplacement and counter improvised explosive device mission sets. His graduate research focused on the industrial associations and transformations of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. Out of uniform, he and his wife, Christen, are raising four young children who nightly ask for and are lulled to sleep by LTC Zgonc's environmental chemistry lectures.
