Dawes arrived in the Hudson Valley in 1990 to pursue full time employment as a rock climbing guide at the Gunks. Earning a B.S in Secondary Education and Earth Science in 2001 at SUNY New Paltz, then began teaching 9th Grade Earth Science until 2004. In 2004 he began teaching in DPE. Dawes earned a MS in Physical Education and Teaching from West Virginia University in 2007. Married in 1997 to Margaret Mueller, they have a son, Logan and reside in Wallkill, NY.
