Dr. Kraig Sheetz is the vice dean for engagement and research at the United States Military Academy (USMA). Prior to assuming his current role, he served as executive vice president and dean of the School of Natural Science and Mathematics at Mount St. Mary’s University from 2018 to 2023.

In 2018, he retired from active duty after more than 28 years in the U.S. Army. Early in his Army career, Dr. Sheetz served as a tactical military intelligence officer but spent the second half of his career at USMA, where he was an associate professor in the Department of Physics & Nuclear Engineering, director of the dean’s staff, and vice dean for operations.

He holds a B.S. in geophysics from Millersville University, an M.S. in geophysics from New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in New Mexico, an M.S. in applied physics from the Naval Postgraduate School in California, and a Ph.D. in applied physics from the Colorado School of Mines in Colorado. His research interests are ultra-short pulse laser design and the development of femtosecond laser-based nonlinear microscopy systems.
