MAJ Nicholas L. Calangi is a senior instructor of CH275, Introduction to Biology, in the Department of Chemical & Biological Science & Engineering at the United States Military Academy.  

After earning a B.S. in biology, a B.A. in history, and a minor in theology from Loyola University-Chicago in 2013, he commissioned as a chemical officer. Initially assigned to the 10th Mountain Division, MAJ Calangi has served on staff in both 2-22nd Infantry Battalion and 3-71st Cavalry Squadron. He would later be assigned to the 7th Engineer Battalion to serve as the dismounted chemical reconnaissance platoon leader. 

Completing his tour at Fort Drum, New York, he served as the 17th Field Artillery Brigade’s protection chief at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. Following this assignment, he served 25 months as the commander for the 11th CBRNE Company (Technical Escort). After command, he pivoted his career track and became a Functional Area 52 Officer (Nuclear and WMD Counterproliferation).
