LTC Russell Nelson serves as the associate director of the Operations Research Program for the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the United States Military Academy (USMA) in West Point, New York. He is an assistant professor in the department.
He holds a B.S. in engineering management (USMA, 2005), an M.S. in applied mathematics (NPS, 2015), and a Ph.D. in operations research (NCSU, 2023).
His research interests include optimization, transportation modeling, and Army aviation and logistics.
Prior to joining the USMA faculty, LTC Nelson served in the operational Army as an aviation officer, with combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, and as an operations research and systems analys at Army Test and Evaluation Command (ATEC).
