MAJ Thomas N. Wheatley is an assistant professor teaching Constitutional and Military Law and Special Topics in the Law courses in the Department of Law & Philosophy at the United States Military Academy (USMA). The Lawrence, Kansas, native is also a U.S. Army judge advocate, an assistant editor for Articles of War, and involved with the Lieber Institute for Law & Warfare at USMA.
Before coming to West Point, MAJ Wheatley was assigned to the XVIII Airborne Corps at Fort Liberty, North Carolina, where he most recently served as the brigade judge advocate for the 16th Military Police Brigade. He also served as an administrative law attorney and national security law attorney for Joint Task Force Dragon, a multinational effort launched in support of Ukraine and allied partners following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Prior to his time at Fort Liberty, he was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas, where he served as the military justice advisor to the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, where he completed an operational rotation to Korea in 2020.
