Dr. Williamson is the Class of '53 Distinguished Chair in Civil Engineering and Professor at the United States Military Academy. Prior to joining USMA, he was a Professor in the Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin and holder of the Phil M. Ferguson Professorship in Engineering. Dr. Williamson's research focuses on the response of structures near the onset of collapse, with particular emphasis on structures subjected to blast, impact, and progressive collapse. In 2009, Dr. Williamson was awarded the ASCE Walter L. Huber Research Prize for his contributions to the analysis and design of bridges subjected to blast loads. Professionally, Dr. Williamson participates on several technical committees at the national level and has held several leadership positions within the Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the American Concrete Institute. Dr. Williamson is registered as a Professional Engineer in the state of Texas. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Williamson worked as a Research Engineer at the Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, TX.
