COL Francis Murphy, Ph.D., is an academy professor and director of the Economics Program in the Department of Social Sciences at the United States Military Academy. A 2002 West Point graduate, he also earned graduate degrees from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth and the University of Virginia. His research has been published in the Journal of Labor Economics, the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, and the Journal of Human Capital.
COL Murphy previously served as a rotating economics faculty member at West Point and deployed multiple times to the Middle East with the 1st Infantry Division. His most recent assignment was at the U.S. Air Force Academy, where he served as director of research for the Office of Labor and Economic Analysis, a developing research agency providing manpower and policy analysis to the Department of the Air Force.
At West Point, COL Murphy teaches introductory economics and the defense economics capstone.
