Jon Paynter is the Deputy Head of the Department of Mathematical Sciences at West Point. LTC Paynter holds a B.S. in Mathematical Sciences (USMA, 2006), an S.M. in Operations Research (MIT, 2014), an S.M. in Technology and Policy (MIT, 2014), and a Ph.D. in Operations Research (MIT, 2022). His research interests include optimization, sequential decision modeling, and predictive analytics, with current application areas in military personnel planning and logistics. Prior to joining the USMA faculty, LTC Paynter served in the operational Army as an Armor officer with combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, and as an Analyst (ORSA) in the Army personnel enterprise.
