MAJ Kate Rutherford is an instructor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the United States Military Academy (USMA) in West Point.
She received her Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from USMA in 2014 and her Master of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Washington in 2024. Her degree concentration was in fluids and energy, with research focusing on cardiovascular fluid mechanics and classification of medical images.
MAJ Rutherford's military assignments included detachment commander and aide to the deputy commanding general of the 1st Special Forces Command (Airborne). Before switching to psychological operations, she was an engineer officer, serving as a platoon leader, company executive officer and aide to the 1st Armored Division deputy commanding general for support.
