MAJ Kevin T. Filip was born in Westchester, IL, and joined Army ROTC at Loyola University of Chicago in 2010. He graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in physics and computer science and commissioned as a second lieutenant into the Aviation Branch. 

In June 2014, MAJ Filip arrived at Fort Novosel, AL. While at Fort Novosel he completed the Aviation Basic Officer Leader Course, the Initial Entry Rotary Wing Course, SERE Level C, and the CH-47F Chinook Flight School XXI Course. In November 2015, he was assigned to Bravo Company, 2nd General Support Aviation Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade (2-227 GSAB, 1 ACB) at Fort Cavazos, TX, as a Heavy Helicopter Platoon Leader. 

In October 2017, he deployed to Germany in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve with Task Force Lobos as an assistant operations officer. After graduating from the Aviation Captain's Career Course (AVCCC) at Fort Novosel, he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 228th Aviation Regiment as part of Joint Task Force Bravo in Honduras. While there, he flew throughout Central and parts of South America, conducting humanitarian aid missions, joint and international training exercises, and air missions in support of US SOUTHCOM lines of effort. Following command in Honduras, MAJ Filip served on the FORSCOM G-37 Training staff at Fort Liberty. 

Shortly thereafter, he matriculated at Duke University and obtained an M.S. in medical physics, specializing in health physics/radiation protection. MAJ Filip is married to CPT Julia Frassetto, who is enrolled in the Eisenhower Leader Development program at West Point. They have two dogs, Moose and Henry. His hobbies include woodworking, cycling, and 3D printing.
