Dr. Lauren Bergey is Assistant Dean and Academic Success and Retention Coordinator in the Registrar’s Office and teaches within the Department of Geography and Environmental Engineering. Dr. Bergey received her Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolution from Rutgers University, NJ in 2007, an M.S. in Biology from East Carolina University in 2000, and a B.S. in Marine Biology from Millersville University in 1994. Her research has focused on the impacts of pollutants on the behavior, growth, and survivorship of populations of fiddler crabs in estuaries, an invasive species of shrimp in the coastal waters of NJ, and maternal genetics and egg characteristics of Atlantic Coast striped bass on the eastern seaboard. Dr. Bergey spent several years in industry working in pharmaceutical research development prior to earning her master’s degree. She has also conducted research in canine cognition and has a certified therapy dog that visits nursing homes, hospitals, Veteran's housing, shelters, and schools. She is married to Roderick Coward, a Naval Academy Graduate and former Lieutenant.
