Lieutenant Colonel Matt Magennis hails from Hackettstown, NJ. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the branch of Aviation upon graduating from the United States Military Academy in 2002, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology. Upon completion of flight school at Fort Rucker, AL, Matt served as a Platoon Leader and Battalion Logistics Officer in 4/101 Aviation Regiment at Fort Campbell, KY. After completion of the Captains Career Course at Fort Rucker, AL, he served as an assistant Brigade Operations Officer in the 10th Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Drum, NY. Matt then commanded HHC/3-10 GSAB and A/3-10 GSAB. Following command, he earned a Master of Education degree in Kinesiology from the University of Virginia. Matt then served as an instructor and testing officer in the Department of Physical Education at the United States Military Academy. Upon completion of Intermediate Level Education, he served as a Brigade Aviation Officer in the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team and a Battalion Operations Officer in 3-4 Aviation Battalion at Fort Carson, CO. Matt then earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Health and Human Performance from the University of Florida. Matt has deployed multiple times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Matt is presently assigned as the Director of Fitness Education in the Department of Physical Education at the United States Military Academy. Matt is married to the former Kelby Elizabeth Scheifler and has two daughters, Mabel and Goldie.
